about

.
a slight change of direction for me. It's just an accidental stumbling into doing something very rickety which I happen to like a lot - for all of its extra-lofi-finery, every clunk and gasp of heavy breathing carefully calibrated. Yes 59 minutes is definitely too much of a good thing - but put it on in the background at your posh dinner party tonight (and why wasn't I invited ?) and I bet someone will remark on how brilliant it is. Probably me. I'm gate-crashing anyway

I'll give you "unbearable" if you'll give me "brilliant" ....... all right, we'll both agree on "unbearable" - but I still think it's brilliant.

This album is my "Faust Tapes" - which if I remember right is the one they sold for about 3p and it shifted millions of copies simply because it was so cheap at a time when all other music was so expensive and everyone got it home and played it once and thought "what a load of rambling rickety hippy bollocks" and threw it away and now of course it is hailed as a classic album

For a while, "Faust Tapes" was my favourite album of all time - it really was. In fact maybe it still is - even though I haven't heard it for about 50 years or something. So don't panic - you'll hate this album of mine right now - but in fifty years you'll be telling everyone that it's your favourite album of all time even though you haven't heard it for fifty years - or maybe simply BECAUSE you haven't heard it for fifty years - it'll take you that long to recover from its unbearable brilliance

NB = CONTAINS DELIBERATE SILENCES

PS - a few minutes ago I looked at my emails and saw the exciting news from Bandcamp that I had a new follower - of course I went straight to my "Dashboard" to see their little picture alongside my other tiny band of followers - no sign of this new follower - they'd clearly quickly had a change of mind and unfollowed me pronto. Never mind - we failed musicians positively LIVE for moments like the arrival of that Bandcamp email - such things make it all worthwhile - and yet dreams of selling an album for even 3p still seem unimaginably remote
